Long Jing, also known as Dragon Well tea, is one of the most celebrated Chinese green teas - prized for its smooth texture, flat hand-shaped leaves, and quietly layered taste. Made in Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, Longjing is especially known for its balance of freshness, sweetness, and a gentle roasted depth.

In the cup, Long Jing tends to feel clean, rounded, and composed rather than sharp. Its flavor often brings together roasted chestnut, fresh green bean, soft orchid-like florality, and a mellow lingering sweetness. Depending on the lot and harvest, it may also show gentle vegetal tones, a buttery smoothness, or a more refreshing grassy-green lift.

What makes this tea so distinctive is the combination of pan-roasting and leaf shape. Good Long Jing is known for its smooth, flattened leaves and its signature nutty-chestnut aroma, a profile strongly associated with its roasting style and highly valued in the tea’s overall character.

Taste profile

Expect a tea that is smooth, fresh, nutty, and lightly sweet, with notes that may unfold as roasted chestnut, green bean, orchid, soft butter, or tender spring greens. The finish is usually clean and persistent, with a quiet sweetness that stays after the sip rather than disappearing quickly.

Properties

As a green tea, Long Jing is minimally oxidized and naturally contains catechins, caffeine, and L-theanine — compounds commonly associated with tea’s antioxidant profile and its gentle, more measured kind of stimulation. For a product page, the most accurate way to describe its properties is not through heavy wellness claims, but through the experience it offers: clarity, freshness, and a more refined energy than stronger or darker teas.
